Looking to get started on your wellness routine for 2022 and introduce CBD into your daily habits? It can be daunting at first trying to figure out how best to use CBD to get optimum benefits, but here are our top 5 tips to get your started!

Set out your wellness goals and what you want to achieve

Firstly, decide on what you want to achieve with CBD. Everyone uses CBD for different reasons and depending on your goal, your method of CBD, strength and when you take may differ. Are you looking to improve your routines and work on your wellness? Or are you just CBD curious? Perhaps you’re thinking of adding CBD into your workout routine? Having a clear goal of what you want to achieve with CBD is the best way to ensure you get the most out of it.

Decide on your method of taking CBD

Depending on your goal with CBD certain types of CBD products may be preferable. If you’re looking for fast absorption to get your CBD quicker then CBD vapes are ideal. Available as vape juice or disposable CBD pens, you can simply take a couple of puffs as and when you want. Because the vapour containing CBD is inhaled directly, it absorbs much quicker through your lungs into your bloodstream than many other CBD products.

Alternatively, if you’re looking for a long release of CBD, CBD sublingual drops are perfect. Simply pop a couple of drops under the tongue and hold for a short amount of time. This allows the CBD oil to be absorbed into the bloodstream via the thin membrane under your tongue. It’s not quite as fast-acting as CBD vape, but you can feel its effects for longer.

Or perhaps you want to target certain areas with your CBD? CBD lotions and creams are ideal for targeting specific areas of the body. Available in muscle balms and moisturising lotions, there’s a wide variety of uses available for CBD in this cosmetic form.

Understanding CBD strength

When you look at a bottle of CBD oil or a CBD product, you’d be forgiven for feeling a little overwhelmed by the choices and variety of numbers on the labels. You’re likely to be greeted by a product that looks the same, has the same CBD amount, and yet is a completely different strength. For example, a 10ml bottle of 1000mg and a 20ml bottle of 1000mg have the same amount of CBD but are different strengths – the amount of CBD is divided by the volume of the product.

The best way to understand the strength of your product is to do a simple calculation. For CBD oil, a 10ml bottle equates to 200 drops so to work out the strength of CBD per drop, simply divide the total CBD mg by the number of drops. For this example, that would be: 1000mg / 200 drops (10ml) = 5mg of CBD per drop.

How much CBD you should use?

Although CBD is well-tolerated by our bodies, it’s always best to play it safe to avoid any unwanted side effects such as dry mouth, drowsiness, and fatigue. But on the flip side, too little and you might not even notice any beneficial effects! The Food Standards Agency (FSA) have since stated that users of CBD should take no more than 70mg a day.

The best way to get started with CBD, especially if you’re new to it, is to start low and gradually increase until you’re happy. If after a week you’re not getting enough benefits from CBD as you’d prefer, then slightly increase your amount. So rather than 1-2 drops a day, make it 2-3 drops a day and so on until you are comfortable. If you are using CBD vape then start with a couple puffs a day and again, gradually increase if you feel like you need more. When it comes to lotions and creams, usually use a thin layer of the product and massage into your skin gently. If after a few days you notice little benefit then try using the topicals more frequently.

Buy only the best - read the label

Ensuring your CBD products are high quality is not being a CBD snob. Not only does high-quality CBD mean you know it works, but also that the product is safe. There is a clear distinction between CBD manufactured from cannabis and hemp plants grown in the US, against those grown elsewhere. The US excels in their premium quality farms ensuring that products are grown organically without any harmful chemicals that can make their way into the finished product.

Likewise, making sure that your CBD product is actually CBD is key. Some CBD products are marketed as such and yet when you read the ingredients, it is actually a hemp seed oil extract that, although similar, is a different type of product than CBD.

You should also make sure that the CBD products you are looking to buy have been tested with lab reports available for you to review. You can view Caligreens’ lab certificates of analysis here. Legal CBD products in the UK should contain no more than 0.2% of THC.

Another note to look out for are CBD products marketed for medical claims. In the UK, at the time of this post, CBD is not approved as a medical treatment by the government. CBD products are listed as a novel food group and often fall into the same category as supplements. Companies, like us here at Caligreens, that are registered with the CTA (Cannabis Trade Association) are a sign that they are reputable and trustworthy businesses.

Once you’ve decided on all these factors, the path to introducing CBD to your wellness routine should open for you. Only you can decide on what really works for you, but some examples could be using CBD pre-workout and post-workout, enjoying your chosen CBD product on an evening as you relax or perhaps even as part of your morning rituals to get ready for the day ahead. Whatever works for you is what counts and CBD is perfectly versatile to work to everyone’s needs. Try CBD today and start your wellness journey.
