What’s the Difference Between CBD Oil and Hemp Oil?
They are both similar and not at the same time.
When looking at CBD you may have also heard the term Hemp Oil crop up. When it comes to CBD it’s essential to know what you’re getting to ensure you’re getting what you need. There are a lot of similarities and differences between them. Let’s look at whether you should be interested in CBD oil, Hemp Seed oil or both.
What is CBD Oil?
If you’ve enjoyed Caligreen’s products already then there’s a good chance you already know what CBD oil is. CBD (also known as Cannabinoid) is a natural chemical found in hemp and cannabis plants. In the UK, CBD is used as a food supplement that can be found in oral drops, vape, lotions, tablets, edibles and more.
What is Hemp Seed Oil?
Hemp Seed Oil also known as Hemp Oil is derived from the fatty oil extracted from hemp seeds. It contains little to no cannabinoids compared to CBD. Hemp Oil is created from the seeds of the Cannabis plant, which is also known as the hemp plant and is high in omega fatty acids. Hemp oil can be used in a lot of similar ways to CBD which is often where the confusion between the two arises.
What’s the differences between the two?
One main difference is what they are extracted from. CBD is extracted from the Cannabis/Hemp plant but Hemp Oil is extracted only from the seeds. As mentioned before, Hemp Oil contains little to no CBD so the effects are different to that of CBD. Because of this, hemp oil is often used more for skincare and cooking, whereas CBD has a wide range of properties that make it versatile to a range of products.
How are CBD and Hemp Seed Oil made?
CBD oil goes through a complex extraction process especially for creating CBD Isolate, the purest form of CBD which removes all other cannabinoids and THC – a legal requirement in the UK. At Caligreens we go the extra step to re-add those missing natural cannabinoids and terpenes after extraction to give our CBD the best effect. CBD oil is also often blended with another oil, often anything from coconut oil to hemp seed oil.
Hemp oil is extracted from the seeds of the hemp/cannabis plant and are ground up until they create an oil.
Which is better, Hemp Oil or CBD oil?
This really depends on the individual and how you want to use your oil. CBD oil works in a variety of products making it highly versatile, while Hemp oil is only used in select ways. Depending on what you want to achieve from taking CBD or Hemp Oil will also be a deciding factor. There is still ongoing research into the benefits of CBD so doing your research or speaking with a pharmacist or your doctor could help to give you a more informed choice.
Why does Hemp Oil get mentioned when talking about CBD?
As they come from the same plant, Cannabis or hemp, CBD oil and Hemp oil often fall into the same conversation. Some products are incorrectly marketed as CBD products but are Hemp Seed Oil, offering no actual CBD in them. Therefore, it’s important when buying your CBD products to check the ingredients list. CBD is usually listed as a cannabidiol, full-spectrum, hemp oil, CBD isolate or CBD broad-spectrum – generally if it mentions CBD in some way, it contains CBD. If the product lists Cannabis Sativa seed oil, then this is Hemp Seed Oil and contains no CBD.
Overall, if you are looking for CBD Oil products, these are not the same as Hemp Seed Oil products. Make sure to check the ingredients of your products to ensure you have picked up the correct sort of product for your needs. They both offer their own benefits and uses but should not be confused for one another.
