Why You Should Try Putting CBD in Your Coffee
The pros and cons of using CBD in your drinks.

CBD is a wonderfully versatile substance that can be used in a variety of ways for a variety of benefits. For those who may not be aware, CBD (Cannabidiol), is a compound found in the cannabis sativa plant or hemp plant. It is but one of the many cannabinoids from the plant that have been used as a supplement for wellness routines for years in the UK and overseas.
These cannabinoids work with the endocannabinoid system – a network of receptors and pathways throughout the body – and are thought to be beneficial. Although more research is necessary to fully understand the benefits of CBD.
In the UK it is widely used as a wellness supplement, cosmetic ingredient, or vaping product but due to the lack of research at this time, medical benefits cannot be claimed. Fortunately, due to the rise in popularity of CBD, more experts and researchers are working to conduct and review studies on CBD.
So, what are the ways you can enjoy CBD? As mentioned, CBD vapes and oral drops have proven popular, as have CBD cosmetics and lotions, and edibles. But how else can you enjoy CBD as part of your daily routine?
Why put CBD in your coffee?
Some people aren’t overly fond of the taste of CBD and even flavoured drops aren’t enough to satisfy. If you love coffee, then what better than masking the taste of CBD with your favourite cup of coffee?
Adding CBD to your coffee is also a subtle way to take CBD without having puff away on a vape or pop out your bottle of drops and sit there with it under your tongue for several minutes.
Coffee itself has many benefits such as being a natural antioxidant, helping to improve brain function and reducing the risk of liver cirrhosis. Most people use coffee as a pick-me-up in the morning and afternoon to get through the day, making it the perfect companion for your CBD fix.
How to make the perfect CBD coffee
There are two ways to make CBD coffee. One involves using specially infused CBD coffee grounds which have been prior blended with CBD. This tends to offer a slightly stronger CBD hit as oil doesn’t bind well to water. The other method is to drop a few CBD oil drops into your coffee but the effects of this will be negligible because the oil has little to bind to.
But if you aren’t able to get specific CBD coffee grounds or prefer a certain coffee over others, then not to worry. We have a perfect method for you, but it works best with freshly ground coffee beans – sorry instant coffee-lovers!
Firstly, you will want to grind up your coffee beans to a medium-coarse size before adding a couple of tablespoons to your cafetiere or infuser mug. To this, add 1ml of your CBD oil into the coffee grounds and mix well. Pour your boiled water over the coffee until you have the desired amount.
With infuser mugs, you will want to cover your coffee and allow it to brew for at least 3-5 minutes before removing the infuser. If using a cafetiere, you will want to leave your brewing coffee uncovered for a couple of minutes before placing the plunger on top. Give it another 2-3 minutes before pressing down the plunger and pouring out your coffee.
We would suggest using a lower dosage for your morning brew and using your regular dosage for the weekends or evenings when you’re winding down.
Is it worthwhile to put CBD in Coffee?
One of the benefits of mixing CBD with your coffee is that they help balance each other. CBD can have the side effect of making you sleepy so naturally blending it with caffeine helps to combat this. Finding the right balance of dosage and strength can be tough though, part in thanks to the variability of CBD absorption.
Ingesting CBD is one of the methods of taking CBD that absorbs only a small amount of the intended dosage. So, there may be some trial and effort required to find the right amount for you. It’s best to take it low and slow though to ensure you don’t accidentally take too much and potentially give yourself a headache! We would suggest you only need one cup of CBD coffee a day, why not try it for yourself with our 1500mg CBD drops?
One ml of our 1500 CBD drops (30ml bottle) contains 50mg of CBD and ingested CBD has a bioavailability of around 6-19%, so this amount could give you potentially a maximum of 10mg of CBD. Of course, this gives us a lot of wasted CBD so if that worries you, you could simply opt for taking your CBD drops sublingually (which offers slightly better absorption).
