The season of love is in the air once again. Valentine’s Day, or St Valentine’s Day as it can also be known as, is an international day celebrated on the 14th February each year. It’s a day around the world where people recognise and celebrate their beloved partners with messages of love and affection. It’s a wonderful time for couples to show their partners how much they care. Over recent years though, Valentine’s Day has become not just a day that couples can celebrate with.

Nowadays it’s quite common for people to send cute valentines messages to friends and family, sharing the love with more than just their other half. It’s also important during this time to not only love others, but to love yourself. The most important person on Valentine’s Day, is you! How can you give love to others and not yourself? Let’s look at what you can do this Valentine’s for your loved ones and yourself.



For the other half – A Personal Touch

Valentine’s Day is a great time to treat your other half with a luxury they wouldn’t normally receive. This could be a gift that you’ve been thinking of getting them for some time, or it could even be an actual luxury experience such as spa days or a getaway somewhere. Make it even more personal with a massage that you yourself can do!

A massage is the perfect, personal touch to your romantic day but don’t fret if you’ve never done one before, we’re here to help.

First off prepare your space. Cover your bed with an old towel or blanket that you don’t mind getting oily. Grab some pillows to make your partner more comfortable. If the weather isn’t too pleasant and the cold is creeping in, warm up the room first to make it cosy. You could even add some quiet spa music in the background and scented candles to really get into the mood.

Your partner may be more comfortable with a pillow under their chest rather than under their head. Have them put their arms to their sides with palms facing up in a relaxed position.

When massaging; use your whole hand, palm and underside of fingers, keep your back straight while massaging and use the weight of your body to put pressure on rather than just your hands. Also, make sure your hands are warm before massaging – your partner will certainly thank you for it! You can even warm up your massage oil by having a bowl of hot water beside you and letting your bottle warm up in the water.

Sit at your partner’s head in a kneeling position or whatever is more comfortable for you, you can sit on a pillow for extra knee support if necessary. Rub a few pumps of oil between your hands then place your palms at the base of your partner’s neck with the spine between your thumbs. Glide your hands down your partner’s back whilst staying next to the spine. At the bottom of their spine, move your hands out to the top of their hips before sliding your hands up their sides and onto their shoulder blades.

Make several circles with your palms over the shoulder blades before moving back down their back with your hands moving toward each other until you reach the base of the spine. Imagine making a ‘V’ shape on your partner’s back from their shoulder blades to the bottom of their back. Then move your hands over the top of their hips again and slide your hands back together over their lower back.

Move your hands up their back with the spine between your thumb edges. At the top of the shoulders, slide your hands out over their shoulders and back to the base of their neck 3-5 times. Then again starting at the base of the neck, slide your palms over the top of your partner’s shoulders. Move onto their upper arm and slide each palm all the way down their arms. Repeat this several times before moving the other arm. Repeat these massages 3-5 times, you can vary the direction or in which order you do them.



For yourself - Pamper the night away

You may be on your own this Valentine's Day or perhaps you just need some TLC. Everyone needs some time to themselves, and self-care is the best way to look after yourself physically and mentally. Treat yourself to a night of fine dining by checking out that place in town you’ve been eyeing up, or if eating alone isn’t quite your cup of tea, order yourself a treat to enjoy at home. Today is about you and that’s all that matters.

Pamper yourself with a long bath steeped in bubbles, light some scented candles, dim the lights, and soak away your troubles. You can even add some drops of CBD oil to your bath for extra pampering for yourself.

Take care and revitalise your skin with CBD lotions that lock in moisture or even create your own CBD-infused face mask. Your face will thank you for it afterwards. You can create an easy face mask using many ingredients you’ve probably already got at home!

All you need is half a ripe avocado, 1 tablespoon of plain, full-fat yoghurt (full-fat is best as CBD clings to fats better giving you better coverage and absorption), half a tablespoon of honey and 4 drops of CBD oil.

• Simply mash your avocado and stir in the plain yoghurt until combined.
• In another bowl whisk together your honey and CBD oil before adding the avocado and yoghurt mix to it.
• Leave to set in the fridge for 10 minutes – this makes it great for providing cooling relief on hot days.
• Stir after and massage onto your face in circular motions.
• Leave on your face for 10-15 minutes before rinsing off with cool water.

Give your skin the complete works by applying moisturiser to your face afterwards to lock in all that extra moisture and keep your skin happy for longer.

Finish off your pamper session with a good book or switch on your favourite movie. Whether you want to glam up and feel good in your favourite clothes, or simply want to wrap up in your pyjamas and fluffy dressing gown – both are perfect ways to enjoy yourself. Valentine’s day is a wonderful time for us to express our love to ourselves and others, but it's never just for one day. Show you care all year round and remember to also care for yourself.
