Nowadays there are a multitude of ways to take CBD which has brought CBD into the lives of many more people. Things such as CBD creams, gummies, lotions and more have made CBD mainstream and easily accessible for anyone looking to try its benefits. But sometimes it really is true when they say the old ways are the best ways. Today we look at why you should take CBD oil under the tongue, and why it is one of the best ways for taking CBD.

What is CBD oil?

CBD oil is made by extracting CBD from the cannabis plant and diluting it with a carrier oil like hemp seed oil or coconut oil. It’s important to note that CBD is not the psychoactive part of the cannabis plant due to it containing no THC, an element of the plant which is illegal in the UK. So CBD won’t get you high but you may still feel pleasing effects from taking it. CBD oil is most commonly found as a tincture; our oral CBD drops contain CBD isolate which is the purest form of CBD meaning there is no THC present. This type of tincture is most commonly used sublingually (under the tongue).

What are the benefits of taking sublingual drops?

By placing small drops of CBD under the tongue, also known as the sublingual method, it is absorbed into the bloodstream through the blood vessels there. This area is rich in capillaries making it one of the fastest ways to take CBD, only bested by vaping as you inhale the CBD into your lungs where it is absorbed.

Oils can take effect in around 15 to 25 minutes as they bypass the liver and stomach and head straight into the bloodstream, unlike other methods such as edibles. Creams and lotions act in a similar way but not as much CBD makes it through the many layers of skin to be absorbed into the bloodstream.

How do you take CBD sublingual drops and how much?

First off you must decide on the product you want to take then open your mouth and pop the dropper under your tongue before releasing a few drops of oil. Allow the oil to sit there under the tongue for a few minutes before swallowing to get the most effect.

There’s no definitive answer for how much you should take as it differs between people and what you are using CBD for. It’s worth noting the effect it has on you, if you prefer tinctures or other methods, low or high strengths. By trial and error you can decide on which dosage suits you best but it is advised by the FSA (Food Standards Agency) to take no more than 70mg of CBD a day.

Most commonly people start around 10mg per day and alter this amount depending on the effects felt afterwards by gradually increasing over the next few days. That’s around 2-3 drops twice a day (of 750mg strength) or 1-2 drops twice a day (of 1500mg strength).
