With the popularity of CBD rising around the globe, it has left many people curious and even more tempted to try CBD for the first time. But what is CBD? Also known as Cannabidiol, CBD is a non-psychoactive compound extracted from the hemp or cannabis plant. Predominantly, CBD is used as a supplement in many people’s wellness routines which has also branched out into cosmetics and vaping products.

Your CBD product might not contain the listed amount

One of the most important things when purchasing your CBD is ensuring it’s a reputable source. Not only can this impact on the quality of your CBD but the validity of it. Some CBD products on the market have been found to contain less CBD than what is advertised, with some even claiming to use CBD but in fact use a similar compound such as hemp seed oil.

Make sure to check for
third-party testing of your chosen CBD products, these should be available to see for yourself, and read customer reviews. Although reviews should be taken with a pinch of salt for the very reasons we’re about to explain.

You might not have built it up in your system

What some users of CBD might not be aware of is that CBD works best when our bodies have built up an amount. Especially for those starting on a low dosage which is advised for newcomers, it can mean that you won’t notice the effects straight away. Similarly, you may notice effects tail off after a while of CBD use, caused by a build-up of tolerance to CBD. The trick to this is to simply take a few days break to reset before starting again with a low dose.

Time can make the difference

If you’ve taken a couple of CBD drops and expected immediate changes, you might be disappointed, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s not working. Sometimes patience is key. Depending on a variety of factors including the type of CBD, dosage and even your own biology, CBD can take time to affect you. And this differs for most people; how long it takes for one person can be vastly different for another. If you’re worried the CBD doesn’t work for you then don’t give up just yet.

Take notes of when and how much you’re taking and slowly raise your dosage if you find you need to. It can take weeks or even months for some to see a difference, but many differences could be small that you might not notice without your notes!

Try a different method of CBD

The problem could be the method of CBD you’ve used. Some methods of CBD are absorbed quicker than others, for example, CBD vapes are the quickest way to get your CBD fix. Bioavailability is a term you will likely hear more of when it comes to researching CBD and for good reason. This term relates to the amount of CBD that is actually absorbed into the bloodstream, so for example CBD edibles have low bioavailability as they must first work their way through your digestive tract.

Depending on the reason you want to use CBD can affect which method you use but if you’re finding no effects then try a more bioavailable method. Typically, in terms of high to low, the methods are: CBD Vape, CBD drops, CBD capsules, CBD edibles, CBD creams. Importantly, although CBD creams are low on the bioavailability scale, those that use them typically do so for skin-deep or muscle issues. Therefore, it’s not important that CBD reaches the bloodstream as our skin has its own cannabinoid receptors.

Although CBD is used for a variety of reasons, including some for treating health issues and mental health, there is currently not enough research to conclude any positive effects in such areas. Cali Greens does not support using CBD as a treatment for medical issues and should only be used as a wellness supplement, vaping or cosmetic product.

Don’t take your CBD on an empty stomach

CBD works best with food high in fatty acids because it binds to them, aiding in absorption. So, if you’re taking CBD pills, drops or other oral means of ingesting, on an empty stomach, you are probably not getting all the benefits of your CBD. Make sure to take these methods of CBD after or with food high in fatty acids to get the most out of it. This can include fish, nuts, other oils like coconut and sesame and avocado.

Genetics and biology may not be in your favour

There’s an unfortunate truth that if after trying all the above, you still don’t feel like CBD is having any effect, then it may not be for you. A lot of factors can impact how you absorb and react to CBD such as metabolism, biochemistry and genetics. Your endocannabinoid system which CBD interacts with can operate a little differently than someone else’s. Instead, try speaking with your GP to see if there’s anything they may suggest instead of CBD.

Overall, these tips can help you if you feel your CBD is lacking or not working for you. It’s important to remember that CBD is not a miracle compound nor a cure-all, it’s simply a supplement with anecdotal evidence reported by some users. More research is under way to determine potential health benefits so if you are interested in using CBD, make sure to do your own research on the topic first.
