Thanks to its many benefits for the body and mind, CBD is used as an effective natural remedy for a variety of ailments. It’s also consumed in many forms, from creams to E-Liquids and drops. Depending on products, different types of CBDs can be used to achieve the best results. So, how do you choose the best type of CBD for your needs? Read on to learn more about the different types of CBD and how to choose the best one for you.

What is CBD?

CBD, or cannabidiol, is an active compound found in the cannabis plant. As one of the 80 cannabinoids present in cannabis, it interacts with the endocannabinoid system found in the human body to help regulate functions such as sleep and pain response. It’s been used for thousands of years to help relieve stress, insomnia, inflammation and pain.

To make CBD products, cannabidiol is extracted from the hemp plant using various methods such as CO2, solvents, alcohol or even olive oil. Depending on the process used, other cannabinoids can appear in CBD products.

The 3 main types of CBD

There are three main types of CBD found in CBD products. They all come from the cannabis plant, and can contain other compounds such as terpenes or flavonoids. To choose the best type of CBD for your needs, it’s essential to understand their specificities.

Full-spectrum CBD

Full-spectrum CBD is the least refined type of CBD, and contains a variety of other active compounds. While it doesn’t contain the waxes and oils found in the whole plant, full-spectrum CBD still contains compounds like terpenes and flavonoids, responsible for the scent and flavour of cannabis products. It can also contain trace amounts of other cannabinoids, such as THC. You can learn more about the difference between THC and CBD here.

Studies suggest that combining CBD and other active compounds such as THC and terpenes is more effective than taking CBD alone, as each element amplifies the benefits of the others. This is called the “entourage effect”. Looking for full-spectrum CBD products? Cali Greens CBD Drops contain full-spectrum CBD. We combine it with CBD Isolate to increase their efficiency, and we also add terpenes back in after extraction to offer you the best results.

Cannabis

Broad-spectrum CBD

With 0% THC, waxes and oils, broad-spectrum CBD is a bit more refined than full-spectrum CBD. However, it does contain additional cannabinoids, like terpenes and flavonoids. It can be seen as a compromise between full-spectrum CBD and isolate.

Broad-spectrum CBD benefits from some of the “entourage effect” provided by the presence of terpenes and flavonoids to enhance its positive effects, however loses out on the "high feeling" associated with THC which is present in Full Spectrum CBD. This type of CBD is seen as a mid-ground between the other two Less widespread than full-spectrum CBD and CBD isolate, broad-spectrum CBD can be found in gummies or drops.

CBD Isolate

Last but not least, CBD Isolate is the purest type of CBD, with up to 99.9% cannabidiol. It’s also the most refined form of CBD, which means it doesn’t contain any other compounds – THC, terpenes, or otherwise.

Flavourless and odourless thanks to the absence of terpenes and flavonoids, it’s a good solution for people who dislike the natural scent and flavour of cannabis. If you’re not too keen on cannabis scents and flavours, CBD Isolate is the perfect product. You can find CBD Isolate in our vapes and skincare ranges. We also use it in our drops, combined with full-spectrum CBD.
