Those who have discovered the benefits of CBD are probably looking to take the next step with CBD. That’s probably why you’ve stumbled across this article! Making your own CBD goodies to enjoy is a great way to introduce CBD into your lifestyle. It’s also a great time to be able to show your friends and family the positive effects of CBD, with baked goods that won’t get you high but could offer some wellness effects.

Benefits of Baking with CBD

Sometimes sublingual drops or CBD vape might not be quite the thing for you. Most people tend to love a good baked treat from cookies to brownies, cakes and more. Adding CBD to the mix gives you a delicious way to enjoy all the benefits of CBD in an even more delectable manner. Each way of taking CBD has its own benefits but what does CBD baking do?

By infusing your baked treats with CBD you can get heaps of benefits such as longer-lasting effects. While edible CBD treats may take longer to kick in than other CBD methods, the effects of digested CBD are known to last longer. The effects of edibles can possibly last 2-4 hours longer than other CBD products due to digestion.

Baking with CBD is also surprisingly easy! There’s no real special CBD you need for most recipes, just CBD tinctures or isolate which is perfect for baking with. There are just a few rules to abide by as you would for any special ingredient.

How to Use CBD in Baking

When baking with CBD, it’s essential that your recipe include some form of the fatty ingredient. For baking, the most common item like this would be butter. This is because CBD oil binds better to fatty products, making the mixture balanced with CBD that’s less likely to separate.

Using CBD oil in your baked goods also allows you to have precise measurements of CBD in your goodies. After a bit of practice and a little bit of maths, you can easily work out just how much CBD is in one cookie, perfect for deciding on how much CBD you want to enjoy with your baked treats.

Key Points About Baking with CBD

Like any other special ingredient, there are a few things to watch out for when baking with CBD. Some recipes lend themselves more towards including CBD due to these key points.

Watch out for temperature

The boiling point for CBD is 180°C (320-356°F). Making sure your CBD baked goods do not exceed this temp is key otherwise you risk your CBD being destroyed and becoming ineffective. Baking CBD at this temperature or above this for prolonged periods could cause your CBD to evaporate or lose all potency. This is why some baked goods that require higher temperatures for cooking would not be suitable for using with CBD.

Keep in mind serving sizes

Knowing how many servings your batch will make is key for understanding how much CBD to put into your mix. For example, if you make 24 cookies with 100mg of CBD, each cookie will only contain 4mg CBD. This might not be enough CBD to create any desired effects. Instead, if you were looking to bake cookies that contain 25mg per cookie, you would need to use a 600mg CBD oil.

It’s also important to know if you’re intending to have more than one or two of your baked CBD goodies. If the CBD is too much per cookie, you may end up with too much CBD for you. It’s advised that you should have no more than 70mg a day of CBD.

Proper storage for CBD baked goods

Keeping them fresh and potent requires treating your CBD baked goods just like any other baked food item. CBD is extremely sensitive to light and heat so it’s best to keep your CBD bakes in a cool, air-tight container away from sunlight. A pantry or cupboard would be perfect.

CBD Cookies Recipe

Let’s get baking! We’ve tweaked this recipe for chocolate chip cookies like those from your favourite bakery, combined with our Cali Greens CBD drops.
Makes 10 cookies (each with 25mg of CBD).

Ingredients:
• 100g granulated sugar
• 165g brown sugar
• 1 tsp salt
• 120g refined coconut oil, melted
• 60ml non-dairy milk
• 1 tsp vanilla extract
• 5ml of 750mg CBD Oral Drops (in orange & mango for a fruity hint, or peppermint)
• 85g plain flour
• 1/2 tsp baking soda

Instructions:
• In a large bowl, mix the sugars and salt then coconut oil until fully combined
• Whisk in your non-dairy milk, vanilla and CBD oil until all the batter is smooth
• Sift in your flour and baking soda then fold in the mixture – be careful not to overmix otherwise your cookies will become tougher!
• Fold in the chocolate chunks and chill in the fridge for 30mins.
• Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F) & line a baking tray with parchment paper – make sure the temp does not exceed 180°C!
• Use an ice-cream scoop to scoop the dough onto your lined tray leaving at least 10cm of space between the cookies and 5cm of space from the edges of the tray
• Bake for 12-15mins or until the edges have started to brown
• Cool completely before serving & enjoy!
